I’ve been working on an idea for some “book list” pages. Here’s a list I’ve started on good books concerning the intersection of faith, law and public policy. Some of these are more about the theological foundation for thinking about law and public policy, others are specifically about the place of faith-based claims in the public square.
Richard John Neuhaus, The Naked Public Square: Religion and Democracy in America
First Things (this is a journal, not a book, but it’s indispensible on faith and culture / law / society topics)
H. Richard Niehbur, Christ and Culture.
George Marsden, Understanding Fundamentalism and Evangelicalism (this really falls into the category of “church history,” but for us evangelicals who want to engage with the culture, this is a critical bit of church history to understand)
Mark Noll, Nathan Hatch, and George Marsden, The Search for Christian America
Russell D. Moore, The Kingdom of Christ: The New Evangelical Perspective
Chuck Colson, Kingdoms in Conflict
Glen H. Stassen: Living the Sermon on the Mount
Henry Van Til and Richard Mouw, The Calvinistic Concept of Culture
Nicholas Wolters, Creation Regained
John Witte, ed., The Teachings of Modern Christianity on Law, Politics, and Human Nature, Vol. 1
