{"id":1505,"date":"2010-11-27T08:20:04","date_gmt":"2010-11-27T15:20:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tgdarkly.com\/blog\/?p=1505"},"modified":"2010-11-27T08:20:04","modified_gmt":"2010-11-27T15:20:04","slug":"youth-groups-ruin-kids-lives","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidopderbeck.com\/tgdarkly\/2010\/11\/27\/youth-groups-ruin-kids-lives\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Groups Ruin Kids&#039; Lives"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, not exactly, but here is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reclaimingthemission.com\/youth-groups-destroy-childrens-lives\/\">great post from David Fitch<\/a> about the dangers of contemporary youth ministry.\u00a0 With\u00a0 kids in junior high and high school youth group, I often worry about the things Fitch mentions here.\u00a0 I&#8217;m grateful that my church&#8217;s youth ministries focus on some of the things Fitch mentions, particularly missions.\u00a0 But I do worry about the kind of spirituality a large youth ministry imparts in virtue of its being large.\u00a0 In fact, I worry sometimes even about the emphasis on missions.\u00a0\u00a0 Is there a model for what most of these kids will eventually do in life &#8212; work at &#8220;ordinary&#8221; jobs and raise &#8220;ordinary&#8221; families somewhere in the U.S.?
