To the tune of \u201cLilies.\u201d Of the Sons of Korah. A <em>maskil.<\/em> A wedding song.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>My heart is stirred by a noble theme<br \/>\nas I recite my verses for the king;<br \/>\nmy tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.<\/p>\n<p>You are the most excellent of men<br \/>\nand your lips have been anointed with grace,<br \/>\nsince God has blessed you forever.<\/p>\n<p>Gird your sword on your side, you mighty one;<br \/>\nclothe yourself with splendor and majesty.<\/p>\n<p>In your majesty ride forth victoriously<br \/>\nin the cause of truth, humility and justice;<br \/>\nlet your right hand achieve awesome deeds.<\/p>\n<p>Let your sharp arrows pierce the hearts of the king\u2019s enemies;<br \/>\nlet the nations fall beneath your feet.<br \/>\nYour throne, O God, will last for ever and ever;<br \/>\na scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom.<\/p>\n<p>You love righteousness and hate wickedness;<br \/>\ntherefore God, your God, has set you above your companions<br \/>\nby anointing you with the oil of joy.<\/p>\n<p>All your robes are fragrant with myrrh and aloes and cassia;<br \/>\nfrom palaces adorned with ivory<br \/>\nthe music of the strings makes you glad.<\/p>\n<p>Daughters of kings are among your honored women;<br \/>\nat your right hand is the royal bride in gold of Ophir.<br \/>\nListen, daughter, and pay careful attention:<br \/>\nForget your people and your father\u2019s house.<br \/>\nLet the king be enthralled by your beauty;<br \/>\nhonor him, for he is your lord.<\/p>\n<p>The city of Tyre will come with a gift,<br \/>\npeople of wealth will seek your favor.<br \/>\nAll glorious is the princess within her chamber;<br \/>\nher gown is interwoven with gold.<sup id=\"en-NIV-14612\"><br \/>\n<\/sup>In embroidered garments she is led to the king;<br \/>\nher virgin companions follow her\u2014<br \/>\nthose brought to be with her.<sup id=\"en-NIV-14613\"><br \/>\n<\/sup>Led in with joy and gladness,<br \/>\nthey enter the palace of the king.<\/p>\n<p>Your sons will take the place of your fathers;<br \/>\nyou will make them princes throughout the land.<\/p>\n<p>I will perpetuate your memory through all generations;<br \/>\ntherefore the nations will praise you for ever and ever.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I turn 45 tomorrow.\u00a0 Birthdays don&#8217;t usually bother me, but this one is getting to me.\u00a0 This morning, I flipped to Psalm 45, in anticipation of this birthday, and was encouraged by it as a prayer for the second half of life: For the director of music.
