The phrase I’m focused on is “pure spiritual milk” or “unadulterated milk of reason” — potentially a really interesting difference!<\/p>\n

I think I like Hart’s rendering of \u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03ba\u1f78\u03bd \u1f04\u03b4\u03bf\u03bb\u03bf\u03bd \u03b3\u1f71\u03bb\u03b1<\/el> better. \u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03ba\u1f78\u03bd<\/el> in the classical sense means “reason” or “logic.” I note also that DBH translates \u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03ba\u1f74\u03bd<\/el> similarly in Romans 12:1 in the phrase \u03c4\u1f74\u03bd \u03bb\u03bf\u03b3\u03b9\u03ba\u1f74\u03bd \u03bb\u03b1\u03c4\u03c1\u03b5\u1f77\u03b1\u03bd \u1f51\u03bc\u1ff6\u03bd<\/el> as “your rational worship” instead of “your true and proper” (NIV) or “spiritual” (NRS) worship. “Rational” sounds odd in Romans 12:1, but Romans 12:2 refers to the renewal of the “mind” or (per DBH) “intellect” (\u03bd\u03bf\u1f78\u03c2<\/el>) so the context there does seem to refer to the “mind” and not the “spirit.”<\/p>\n

I’m curious, though, why in 1 Peter 2:2 as well as in BDAG “spirit” or “spiritual” is seen as the better reading?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
