{"id":722,"date":"2009-01-06T09:36:05","date_gmt":"2009-01-06T16:36:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.tgdarkly.com\/blog\/?p=722"},"modified":"2009-01-06T09:36:05","modified_gmt":"2009-01-06T16:36:05","slug":"christian-history-contextualization","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davidopderbeck.com\/tgdarkly\/2009\/01\/06\/christian-history-contextualization\/","title":{"rendered":"Christian History &#8212; Contextualization"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m starting my first class today as a student at <a href=\"http:\/\/biblical.edu\/\">Biblical Seminary<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll be working ever so slowly on a <a href=\"http:\/\/biblical.edu\/images\/embark\/PDFs\/MA%20Missional%20Theology-screen.pdf\">Masters in Missional Theology<\/a>.\u00a0 Hopefully God will use this to enrich my work as a law professor and in the local church, as well as to deepen and broaden my own faith.\u00a0 My first course is an online class in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblical.edu\/images\/equip\/PDFs\/2009Wintersyllabi\/TH531AW-Thomas2.pdf\">World Christian History<\/a>.\u00a0 We started with this great quote:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201c. . . All historically visible Christianities are partial manifestations of an essence that is never seen in an unmixed form, and can never be seen in its wholeness and entirely on earth. The \u2018God\u2019s eye\u2019 view of the eternal of the Christian Church is just that. Every manifestation of Christianity is partial because it is always a composite. The churches never escape their social context and the value of their host society.
