165 Yard Par 3, 8 iron high and straight onto the green, 2 good putts for par
Second shot on a Par 5, from a sloping lie to the left of the fairway, 200+ yard 7-wood to within 10 feet of the green
Tee shot on a Par 5, cut the slight dogleg, hit a downsloping hill and rolled, ended up 275+ on the fairway
and finally, some reasonably reliable pitch and chip shots (the work in the backyard with my dog, a certified “golf ball retriever,” starting to pay off).
(The best play of the day, though, went to someone in another foursome — most of the water traps were dried, leaving caked mud, and this guy went out to get his ball, sank to his knees in mud, and then fell onto his face — they had to pull him out!)
Monday may be the last round of the year. We’ll see…
